JOB OF THE WEEK
Yabroudi Endowed Professorship
Sustainable Civil Infrastructure
Type of Employment: Permanent
The L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Syracuse University invite applications and nominations for the inaugural appointment of the Abdallah H. Yabroudi Professorship in Sustainable Civil Infrastructure. Mr. Yabroudi, an alumnus of the College, envisions an innovative and broad program in sustainable civil infrastructure in the developing world; the faculty member appointed to the chair will have a distinguished record in the field and significant international experience. An important activity in the program is the James Mandel and Samuel Clemence Civil Engineering Internship through which Syracuse civil engineering students have on-the-ground experience in Dubai with the international company that Yabroudi chairs, the Dubai Contracting Company.
This new endowed chair is being established at a time of innovation and enhancement of LCS under the leadership of the new dean, Laura J. Steinberg, who is leading the College to substantially increase the college’s standing across many dimensions. The Yabroudi Chair will play a critical role in the development of a new focus on sustainability within the College and will be joined by the Wilmot Endowed Chair in Sustainable Buildings.
Candidates for the Yabroudi Chair should be outstanding professors or practitioners with extensive international experience and a global perspective on sustainable infrastructure, particularly in emerging countries. Additionally, the chair will be expected to bring in funding to establish Syracuse University as a global center for sustainable infrastructure, including expansion of international opportunities for engineering students.
A PhD in engineering or a closely related field is required and a strong record of extramurally funded research, or potential to develop such research as evidenced by a distinguished history of managing international development projects, is preferred. Excellent teaching and mentorship are critical to this appointment. For more information on the college and the department, please visit http://www.ecs.syr.edu.
